Steve Ngo is a practitioner of international arbitration and dispute resolution where he has acted as specialist and arbitrator. He also practises in the Dispute Resolution Practice Group of Aquinas Law Alliance LLP in the area of arbitration. Steve is the founding President of Beihai Asia International Arbitration Centre, the first ever establishment of an international arbitration centre in Singapore by the Beihai Arbitration Commission, headquartered in Beihai, Guangxi Province.

In addition he is also appointed as a Member of the AAA-ICDR Asia Advisory Board and member of ICC Singapore Arbitration Group.

He has been advising public and private entities not only on post-dispute matters but negotiation, mediation and dispute management. He has over the past decade focusing on China, Indonesia and India, the two key growth economies of Asia and South East Asia. Sectors and dispute areas he has been involved include oil and gas, energy, investment, joint venture, telecommunications, shipping, mining, financial services, international trade and engineering. Steve has extensive experience dealing with parties from all over the world, bringing strong cross-cultural proficiency to international dispute resolution processes and strategizing.

In the last decade, Steve has been involved in regional mining and energy related works in connection with dispute resolution and corporate exercises, involved in examining foreign laws, dealing with accountants, asset valuers, local regulators and stakeholders.

Steve has been involved in matters involving arbitration rules of, among others, CIETAC, LMAA, SAC, ICC, SIAC, PCA, UNCITRAL, ICSID, HKIAC, BANI and AIAC. In addition to international commercial arbitration, he has been consulted on potential investor state arbitrations, evaluating cases against and for the state party. He is also an Arbitrator at the Thailand Arbitration Center, Qinzhou Arbitration Commission, Beihai Arbitration Commission, Hainan Arbitration Commission, Luoyang Arbitration Commission and Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration.

He also has vast experience in design and delivery of arbitration professional training programmes and postgraduate courses throughout the region. With previous professional experience in the higher education sector, he has special interest in the pedagogy and methodology of education. In addition to lectures and talks at academic institutions in the region, he has also lectured on dispute resolution at the Ministry of Energy & Mineral Resources Indonesia, Guangxi Lawyers’ Association, Singapore Law Society, Malaysian Bar Council, Taipei Bar Association, Indonesia Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Myanmar Bar Association and the Permanent Court of Arbitration, The Hague. Steve has written and published on subjects relating to arbitration and dispute resolution.

Steve has been appointed to various positions at various universities, including Honorary Professor of Law, National Law University, Delhi; Honorary Professor, National University of Management, Phnom Penh, Cambodia; Part-time Professor at the School of Law, Guangxi University for Nationalities, Nanning; Adjunct Professor, Guangxi University, School of Law; part-time Professor, Changzhou University, Shi Liang School of Law; Senior Visiting Fellow, Tongji Intellectual Property & Competition Law Research Center, Tongji University, School of Law, Shanghai; Academic Adviser, Belt & Road Legal Service Research Association, Macau; and Visiting Scholar, Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. He was invited to participate at the China Law Schools Ninth National Symposium on Legislation on Philosophy of Law from 4-5 November 2017, organised by Guangxi University and Jilin University. In addition, he was also a speaker at the China-ASEAN Procedural Law Forum 2017, 2018 and 2019 in Nanning, Guangxi.
